  1. I am a holder of a Refugee Passport (Geneva 1951). Do I need a visa?

    No you do not need a Schengen visa.

  2. I am a holder of the UK Certificate of Travel, do I need a visa?

    Yes, you do need a Schengen visa.

  3. What is an adequate travel medical insurance?

    The insurance should be valid throughout the territory of the Member States and cover the entire period of the applicant's intended stay or transit within the validity of the visa, i.e. the insurance should only cover the period of effective stay, and not the validity of the visa. The minimum coverage should be EUR 30 000

  5. How can I contact the Finland Visa Application Centre?

  6. How early can I apply?

    Applications cannot be submitted earlier than six (6) months before the start of the planned journey. In individual cases, the mission can extend the processing time up to a maximum of 45 calendar days.

  7. How do I submit my application at the Visa Application Centre?

  8. Do I have to come in person or can I send the application to the Finland Visa Application Centre?

    You must come in person to submit your visa application. For collection of passport, you can send a nominated person if you are unable to collect yourself. A letter of authorisation stating the name of the nominated person and signed by you must be presented at the Visa Application Centre to allow the person to collect on your behalf.

    Applications by Post are not permitted. You must visit the Finland Visa Application Centre in person to submit your application.

  9. What is the application procedure at the Finland Visa Application Centre?

    Applicants must Schedule an Appointment to submit their application. Please see the How to Apply page for more information. Applicants will be asked to take a token at the entrance and be seated in the waiting area. (You can approach our Submission Counters when your token number is displayed). Your officers at the counter will collect your visa application form to check for completion and your photograph to see if it meets the required specifications. Your biometric information will be collected (where applicable). Your passport will be checked for validity, empty pages and previous travel information. Your fees will be collected in accordance with the visa category you have chosen and the documents you submit will be submitted in the manner in which they are required by the Embassy of Finland. You will be issued a receipt for the fees paid and given an acknowledgement for the submission of your passport.

  10. Which visa [category] should I apply for?

    The Finland Visa Application Centre is an acceptance centre and, as such, is not authorised to advise/recommend any visa type to a prospective applicant. The Applicant will need to ascertain the visa category he/she is eligible for based on the purpose of travel. Please go to Visa Types page to see the available categories of visa, and choose according to your purpose of travel.

  11. What are the documents required for a Finland Visa?

    After deciding the eligible Visa Category, applicants should click on the Documents Required section. Photocopies are recommended, as original documents will not be returned. Please submit originals only when specified.

  12. What if I do not have all the documents?

    If your application is not accompanied by the documents that are recommended by the Embassy of Finland, you will be asked if you wish to proceed with the application as it is, i.e. without all the recommended documents and you are asked to sign the checklist to prove that. Should you consent to this, your application will be registered in our system and accepted for visa application submission. Incomplete applications might lead to processing delays.

  13. What proof will I have that Finland Visa Application Centre has my visa application?

    When your application is registered in our system, you will be issued a receipt for the fees you have paid, and an acknowledgement of the acceptance of your passport. To track the status of your application please click Here.

  14. What are the applicable fees?

    Every Visa application needs to be accompanied by a visa fee for the amount applicable to your chosen visa category. Please go Here for a list of fees. These can be paid by Debit/Credit card or cash.

  15. What is procedure to get my passport back?

    Once you have received a text/email confirming that your processed passport has reached our offices and is ready for collection, please see the Passport Collection page for more information. You also have the option of requesting for the return of your documents by Special Delivery for an additional fee of £14.95 per application.

  16. What if I cannot return to collect my passport in person?

    You may send a nominated person to collect your passport on your behalf, who should carry the receipt, stamped passport copy and letter of authorisation from yourself. We can post the application to you by Special Delivery at an additional nominal cost. However, this request needs to be made at the time of submitting your application and cannot be requested at a later date. This service is restricted to Secure Mail coverage in the UK and Northern Ireland only.

  17. Will I get my visa at the end of the process?

    The Finland Visa Application Centre cannot guarantee the issuance of a visa. The issuance or refusal of a visa is at the sole discretion of The Embassy of Finland. The Finland Visa Application Centre cannot influence this decision in any way.

  18. If I have to travel elsewhere and my passport is still with the Embassy of Finland, is it possible for me to have my passport back for travel? What if I decide to withdraw my application?

    Should you wish to withdraw your application completely, please follow the same process but mention that you would like to withdraw your application completely. We would like to inform you that your fees will not be refunded at any stage.

  19. Will my fees be refunded if my visa is refused?

    All fees are non-refundable and will not be refunded if your visa application is not successful.

  20. When can I reapply; is there a timeframe after the refusal that I must wait before I reapply?

    You are free to re-apply at any time if your application has been refused earlier. There is no time gap to be observed after a Refusal to make a fresh application. However, it is recommended that you note the reasons for the earlier Refusal before submitting a new application and make amendments where applicable.

  21. What if I am not happy with the response I receive from the person on the helpline?

    You can ask for the Manager on duty at any time during your enquiry if you are unhappy with the response you have received from the helpline.

  22. Can I apply for a visa if my passport is more than 10 years old?

    All Visa Applicants must have a Passport that is not older than 10 Years as of the date of return from your scheduled trip. This also applies to passports issued more than 10 years ago that have since been extended. In this case you must obtain a new passport before making your application.
